How to Make Money at Online Poker

Playing poker online can work well when you know how to make money at online poker.

Some people play online poker for the money. That is of course what attracted me to the game in the first place. If you’re not playing with the goal of winning money, what’s the point of playing?

There are many ways to make money at online poker. Ask any pro and they will probably tell you that the first method they learned to make money at online poker was by earning in the least profitable way possible–by playing super-tight. When I first started to play poker, participating in tournaments gave me a much better poker playing education than playing ring games did. (I still play ring games, but not nearly as much as I did when I first started playing online.)

There are many poker theories that say you can make money at online poker. The most popular of these theories is called the “Martingale” theory. Simply put, if you continue to bet at a poker table long enough, you will actually break even. Players like to say “CTV!” or bet on everything. When you play poker online, the poker rooms have a timer set. When the timer rings off, the flop (first 3 cards are dealt) has to be dealt again. Players play on until the timer rings off again. If the poker room has a real money poker table, players have ten seconds to bet, then the cards are dealt and the next poker round begins.

The problem with the Martingale theory is that sometimes, you actually will lose on long-term bets. It happens to the best of us. It’s not entirely the fault of the casino (though part of the responsibility is yours, too). The fault lies with the part of your brain that is hard-wired to think in terms of probability, not profitability.

Of course, we’ve all heard that before, but it tends to get swept away when you’re having a good time. If you’re winning, it tends to become a compulsion, and before you know it, you’re risking more money than you can earn.

If you’re winning at online domino88, you want to make sure you’re winning consistently. One way to do that is to use tracking software to tell you when you have a bad beat.

Some of the online poker rooms have such a program in play, others do not. You want to make sure you’re using software that assesses the probabilities of the cards coming out of the deck. When those probabilities are right, you’ll know when to fold–whether or not you’ll win the money in the pot, anyway.

Criterion such as “average pot size”, “number of callers” and “player flat bet”, are taken into consideration in the assessment of probability. You don’t want to be betting into a situation where you have underdog cards, because you’re depending on a 50-50 chance of winning. You want to be folding when you have a 70-30 or 60-40 chance of winning, and this is usually the case. Once you identify the pots and opponent poker strategies that you can beat, you can move up to more serious and valuable poker strategies. This is the method of winning at poker.
